Picturesque bay of Cala Pi
Belonging to the municipality of Llucmajor, the town of Cala Pi is just as tranquil as it is a popular holiday resort in the south of Majorca. The village of only 630 inhabitants is characterised by its picturesque location.
The closest villages are about 10 miles away, Cala Pi is surrounded by miles of open fields and an unspoilt coastline. Picturesque is the 30-metre-deep canyon of "Torrent de Cala Pi", which flows into the sea with a 125 metre long sandy beach. After heavy rainfall brackish water ponds form that give the canyon a wild beauty.
Boat in the bay of Cala Pi
The water is usually clear and smooth as glass in the wave-protected Cala Pi. The 50 metre wide sandy beach shelves gently into the sea and is therefore ideal for a family holiday. On the west side of the bay are boat shelters known as "Escars". Behind these the rock stairs lead to a pine forest. A delightful three-hour hike from here runs the from the coast to the lighthouse of Cap Blanc. In the other direction there is an few km walk to Sa Rápita, where the dream beach of Es Trenc begins.
Beach of Cala Pi
Many owners of holiday homes will appreciate the charm of the unspoilt countryside and spend year after year choosing to have their summer vacation in Cala Pi. At the entrance the attractive apartment block is predominate in Mediterranean colours. The first (and second) line of the sea boast the many rich wonderful houses in the upper price segment. The cliff top properties offer a wonderful sea view and plenty of relaxation.
The village of Cala Pi only runs in the high season and so maintains a relaxing winter sleep. The choice of restaurants is therefore manageable. Those looking for more choice and good shopping, will find the county town Llucmajor in 15km.
A long time ago there was also a small town in close proximity to Cala Pi. Near the resort border in fact is the former talaiotic settlement of Capocorb Vell. It is now a historical monument and can be visited for a small fee. Of the former compact houses there are only the ruins to see. The typical Talayotic (and eponymous) defence towers are still relatively well preserved. Archaeologists assume that by 1200 BC. to the early Middle Ages, about 500 people lived here. The wild-romantic area near Cala Pi has always upped its appeal.
