Together helping Mallorca

Mallorca is a paradise which has captured the hearts of many people. Despite its beauty, however, recent global events have left their mark on the island and have led to an increase in the number of people in need of help.
As a company which cares deeply about Mallorca and its people, Porta Mallorquina is committed to helping the community. We have made it our mission to support people in need, not only by financial means but also by effectively helping. With that in mind we would like to present some of our social initiatives and partnerships:

Lions Club Palma

The Lions Club Palma is one of the few German-speaking initiatives on the island.Founded in 2005 its main aim has been to procure essential goods and to deliver them to the distribution points for passing on to the needy. Six days a week up to two tons of fruit and vegetables are collected by refrigerated trucks and delivered together with toiletries, cereal products, milk, meat and fish. This charitable club is financed by donations from sponsors, and our annual donation contributes to supporting 2 trucks distributing basic food products across the island. More information regarding these mobile helpers can be found at www.lionsclubpalma.com

Hope Mallorca

“We give hope to the people of Mallorca to escape from poverty”, is the credo of Hope Mallorca, and hope is what many islanders need. When the pandemic took over the whole of our sunny island many residents lost their jobs.
Uncertainty, fear and worry overshadowed Mallorca, and in the middle of this difficult time Hope Mallorca was founded. A shred of confidence was given back to the islanders by our sales advisor Nicole Neumann from the Porta Mallorquina office in the centre of the island, who helped where she was needed. As Christmas gifts for our staff we decided to take advantage of the offers from the online shop and were very satisfied, as the purchase of articles from this source would help the people on Mallorca in need of support.
Other products from the Hope Mallorca online range can be found at www.hopemallorca.org.

Mallorca Sense Fam

“I want to be a role model, especially for my sons,”

said Barbara de Matos, our franchise partner from Llucmajor. Last year in December she was in the supermarket “Alcampo” in Palma with her family and collected food donations for Mallorca Sense Fam. ‘Mallorca without hunger’ is the translation of Mallorca Sense Fam and is, at the same time, the aim of the association which was founded in 2009. The Balearic government supports the foundation, but their financial contribution is not enough and additional donations of money and food are required. To raise enough of the latter on certain days the volunteers stand in supermarkets all over the island, very happy to receive any donation, no matter how small it may be! In some branches of the supermarket chain “Hiper Centro”, containers are available in which the donated goods are stored and then passed on by Mallorca Sense Fam to those who are in need of them.
In the shop of the same name at Carrer d’Avinyo 12 in Palma where second-hand, everyday objects can be bought at reasonable prices, it is well worth making at least one purchase. The largest part of the sales proceeds helps to ensure that no-one on Mallorca goes hungry. The Spanish and English-language homepage is available at www.mallorcasensefam.org.

Mundo de niños

We are not only charitably active in Mallorca, but also far beyond the island’s borders.

“As estate agents, we experience daily the pleasure of finding new homes for families, so it made sense to focus our social commitment on a project which provides a home for street children,”

said Joachim Semrau, the founder and managing director of Porta Mallorquiner. Mundo de niños is the name of the shelter which has opened its doors to street children in Trujillo, Peru and which receives our contributions. This home for the vulnerable, which also serves as a day centre for children from poor family backgrounds, provides the young people a chance to lead a normal life. Through psychological and medical care, balanced nutrition, and reintegration into everyday school life, the young people are prepared for a better life in the future. Also special about this children’s centre is that all the money goes directly to the children, as the administrative and travel costs are paid by the members of the association themselves. We regularly donate through www.mundodeninos.org, providing a happier life for the Peruvian street children.
