Which Mallorca type are you? -Blogseries Part 2 – The commuter

Mallorca attracts a wide variety of people who want a second home on the island, or even wish to settle here. We have placed the various personalities and their characteristics under the microscope and divided them into sections called "archetypes". These types we have then fitted into established areas and places on the island where they can feel especially comfortable and which are beneficial for them. The second part of our little series is concerned - after the "quiet connoisseurs" - with an archetype which is currently more frequently encountered on the island: The commuter There is no doubt that Mallorca is more popular than ever, and commuters benefit as more and more flights are available throughout the year. No matter which city in Germany is the destination, it is no more t...

Estate agent in Mallorca – a dream job swimming with the sharks

Interview with Porta Mallorquina CEO Joachim Semrau, published in Bellevue, Europe's largest real estate magazine, issue 4/2016.   Bellevue: Mr. Semrau, estate agent in Mallorca is for many the dream job par excellence. But how does it look in reality? Joachim Semrau: "Actually, some people have totally false ideas about our profession here. Anyone who thinks it is enough to show luxury, high-priced villas by the sea a few times and make a few sales to secure their annual income is way out of place here. The property market in Mallorca is a shark tank, many brokers compete for the same customers and the successful ones are those who score points through competence, diligence and above average service orientation. Newcomers, particularly, need to be able to hold their breathe ...

A Trip back to Majorca’s Past

What do people living today retain from the past millennia? If one were to examine the human genome of Majorca’s indigenous islanders, one would find traces of the first settlers in their genes, as well as of the Romans, the Moors, the Aragonese, etc. We’re making it easier for ourselves. We want to see with our own eyes the visible traces that people of past times have left behind. First settlement of the Balearics Majorca, a big island in the Mediterranean, is far off the mainland. Even today, the ferry from Barcelona – the nearest point on the mainland – takes 10 hours to reach the harbour at Palma. Despite this great distance, people came to the island long ago: the first arrived at the steep coastline of the Tramontana Mountains in light, fragile wooden boats during the Neolithic ...
